Cherry MX Black is a linear switch in the Cherry MX Series.
The switch follows the general characteristics of the MX family, consisting of an upper and lower housing, leaf, stem, and spring. The switch housing can accommodate a jumper wire, diode, or LED.
The stem is made out of POM, and the housing is most likely a nylon blend specific to Cherry's switches.
Like almost all other MX-style switches, Cherry MX Black uses two leaves to register keypresses. They are friction fit into the bottom housing opposite the slot for an LED.
The switch is the oldest design in the Cherry MX line of switches and was first introduced in 1984. It is also the most common switch, being the main switch in the majority of Cherry-made keyboards.
