Acer KB-101C

Acer KB-101C is a capacitive keyboard that was manufactured by Acer, who recently rebranded from Multitech. It features a 101-key ANSI layout fitted with tactile foam and foil switches. It shares a very similar FCC ID with the KB-101A as well, with the single letter A at the end of the ID separating these two boards. It was registered in September of 1987, the same year Acer moved on from their Multitech branding.

Physically, the KB-101C has an identical chassis to the Acer KB-101A and 6011-series keyboards. The only way to tell these boards apart would be from the label, or pulling a keycap. It features the same removable cutout door for its fixed cable, as well as the cable gutters and four rubber feet. It is held together with three plastic clips at the top, as well as five screws around the perimeter of the board, and one shorter screw on the south side. The keyboard assembly is held together similar to Topre, where small screws thread into individual, discrete switches, holding the PCB to the plate. This assembly is held to the bottom housing of the keyboard via 2 screws and 2 clips. The back side of the PCB is shielded.

The keycaps are pad-printed ABS and have an unusual mount similar to KeyTronic foam and foil, or their later dome with slider switches. BTC also used this style of keycap mount early on, before ultimately switching to a Cherry MX mount. These keycaps are loosely compatible with KeyTronic/BTC switches, but KeyTronic/BTC keycaps will not work on these switches.
