Description
The 5170 was the AT layout keyboard produced by Advanced Datum Information (ADI).
Currently two models of the 5170 are documented, the KM-5170 with Cherry MX Black switches and KI-5170 with ADI Inductive switches.
Of note is the fact most documented examples of this keyboard have been found in Europe and most documented re-badges are for European computer brands which suggests this keyboard was primarily produced for the European market.
Construction
Case and Internals
The keyboard consists of 3 parts. A top case, a bottom case and a internal assembly.
The top case is made of a plastic which can yellow which suggests it is made of ABS.
Externally it features a locklight sticker on the top right corner and a pen holder.
Internally it has a cable gutter for routing the cable from the PCB to the cable cutout, cutouts for the locklights, threaded plastic standoffs for holding the assembly in place and keeping the case together and a sticker for the keyboard's model number, part number and other information about who and how it was manufactured.
The bottom case is made of a plastic which can yellow which suggests it is made of ABS.
Externally it features 8 screws for keeping the assembly and case together, a model sticker showing the keyboard's model number, serial number and country of origin as well as 6 total feet.
2 being flip out feet for adjusting the keyboard's angle and 4 being non-slip feet.
The assembly consists of a PCB and plate.
The plate is metal and can rust which suggests it is made of steel
Keycaps
The keycaps are ABS doubleshot and use pad printing for region specific sub legends.
The font and profile of these key caps is shared by several other keyboards, primarily Hottek ones, which suggests ADI did not manufacture them.
