Description
The Alps KF71CM0050 is an AT-layout keyboard documented with Alps SKCL/SKCM switches. This keyboard part number is known to have been procured only for Ardent Computer (along with it's successor, Ardent Stardent).
Construction
Two versions of this keyboard were produced, presumably one before, and one after, the merger of Ardent Computer and Stellar Computer. Almost all features of the keyboard are consistent across both revisions.
Case
This board is a member of the “Alps Minifoot” series keyboards and as such, it's construction is remarkably similar to that of keyboards like the Epson AP1003A. However, it stands out in that it lacks a lock light cluster, with a simple placeholder sticker instead. Earlier models provide the name “Ardent Computer” where the lock light sticker would be, while later models are simply labeled as “Stardent”. All lock light LEDs are subsequently incorporated within the lock switches themselves.
The bottom tray features two standard-sized flip-out feet and two rubber feet, with six screw sockets and four clips that secure it to the top shell. It uses a coiled, non-removable 5P DIN connector that runs out from the center of the back. The gray label provides the Ardent Computer model number, Alps model number, serial number, and a part number.
PCB
Both PCB revisions appear to be capable of full N-key rollover. The original Ardent Stiletto keyboard bears the PCB code 12KC616A.
Switches
Both revisions primarily use Alps SKCM Blue switches, with Alps SKCL Green switches for the Caps, Num and Scroll Lock keys.
Keycaps
All keycaps are doubleshot ABS and were manufactured by Alps Electric. They feature a proprietary red-on-white scheme that does not appear on any other keyboard.
Keycaps over switches with integrated LEDs are doubleshot, but their legends are not.
