The Atari 8088 was the keyboard for the Atari PC11), PC22) and PC33) 8088 personal computer. It uses Hi-Tek 725 linear switches and PBT dye-sub keycaps.
Description
The Atari 8088 PC line was Atari's first IBM PC compatible computer, introduced in January 1987.
As was common at the time, the keyboard was based on the IBM PC AT keyboard and used its layout. It was produced by NMB and Hi‑Tek and uses the Hi-Tek's series 725 linear switches.
Currently there is one documented rebranded variant as 'Sheng Ja 928'; it's unknown if it's a official rebrand but based on the example photos it seems unlikely.
Construction
Case and Internals
The keyboard consists of three parts: a ABS top and bottom case, and an internal assembly
Top case
Externally, it has a lock-light sticker with the 'Atari' logo on it and a large 'forehead'.
Internally, it has plastic standoffs for fastening the bottom and top case together.
Bottom case
Externally, it has a sticker documenting the keyboard's serial number and country of origin, and six total feet: four non-slip feet and two large flip-out feet for adjusting the keyboard's angle.
Internally, it has plastic pegs for resting the assembly on and plastic pegs for routing the cable internally.
Assembly
The assembly consists of a PCB and painted steel plate.
The PCB has several markings, including: the country of origin (Thailand) and a part number (112549 on the documented example).
Keycaps
The keycaps are PBT dye-sub and were produced by NMB in their OEM profile. The keycaps use a very distinctive stepping on the outer side of the modifiers which was usual for NMB keycaps of the time.
