Description
The Leading Edge DC-2014 is an XT-class PC keyboard which was manufactured for use with the Leading Edge Model D personal computer. It is notable for being one of the few keyboards to appear exclusively with Alps SKCM Blue.
Construction & Internals
The case is comprised of a plastic upper case and plastic tray. The upper case has a distinctive concave dish that runs horizontally, presumably there either for aesthetics or for storage. The same dish is present on the case of the ANSI Leading Edge DC-3014. The upper case is secured to the lower case with several screws, all screw sockets are made of metal. The board is a case mount (in other words, the PCB and mounting plate are mounted to the top case, rather than the tray).
The coiled Sumitomo cable runs out of the left side of the board, and uses a 5P DIN interface. However, unlike many other XT boards, it makes use of the reset pin and will typically not work with most XT converters (unless if they are specifically marketed as working with them). Nevertheless, both internal and external converters exist for the DC-2014 that allow it to be used with modern systems.
The Daewoo logo is printed on the PCB, along with an Alps-branded sticker that provides an ASSY. No. (KFCMAB008A).
Switches
Almost all examples have been discovered with Alps SKCM Blue. There have been purported example(s) delivered with Alps SKCL Brown, a switch manufactured by Gold Star Alps. Such models appear to be in limited quality and little to no visual evidence or documentation exists of them.
Keycaps
All keycaps are standard Alps OEM doubleshots and use the same color ways as the keycaps on both the DC-2214 and DC-3014. The board comes with less stepped keycaps compared to other XT-layout boards, such as the original IBM Model F.
