Description
The Packard Bell KCLEA916A is an AT-layout PC keyboard with Alps switches. It was presumably manufactured by Gold Star Alps, given that it is one of a limited number of vintage keyboards documented with Alps SKCL Brown.
Construction
Case
The case bears a visually strong resemblance to other Alps AT-layout keyboards of the time, particularly the Epson AP1003A. In the same fashion as the Epson, the top shell features the Packard Bell logo at the top left. The lock light sticker features a scroll lock light indicator which doubles as a power indicator should the board be put in XT mode.
The bottom case features standard-sized adjustable flip out feet and two non-slip square feet, along with six screw sockets and four visible clips. Four additional round holes are present, however, they do not appear to serve any structural purpose as no screw sockets are visible inside of them. The coiled, non-removable 5P DIN cable runs out from the right side of the bottom case. The grey labels feature the S/N, model number, an FCC ID of GRH3VEG02AXT—A26A and explicitly states that the board was made in Korea.
Switches
This keyboard has been documented model with Alps SKCL Brown as the primary switch. The spacebar switch is likely Alps SKCL Amber.
Keycaps
The keycaps are standard Alps Electric doubleshot ABS, with no homing bumps present. Legends are solid black.
