Description

The Texas Instruments 2229155-0001 is an input device that was developed for the Texas Instruments Model 924 Video Display Terminal (VDT).1) The layout appears to be inspired by that of the DEC LK-201 terminal keyboard, but is referred to as the “North American Layout” by the users' manual.

Construction

The keyboard is made of two shells that are held together by six screws/ metal screw sockets. The top half of the case features an embossed logo and a few cut-outs near the top. The bottom tray provides the P/N 2229155-0001. One example has been shown with the sticker “REV. B” on both the sticker and the inside of the bottom case, suggesting multiple revisions of this keyboard.

The PCB and plate are secured to the top case by four screws, with an additional board for the power LED that connects to the main PCB. The PCB does not feature branding from any recognizable manufacturer. Controllers are labeled as being made by Toshiba.

Switches

At least two examples have been documented with Alps SKCL Green. Consistent with most other boards that used linear Alps at the time, the spacebar makes use of an Alps SKCL Cream switch.

Keycaps

All keycaps are doubleshot ABS. Keys with integrated LEDs (e.g., Compose Character and Caps Lock) are also doubleshot, but the legends appear to be rimless pad print. All front-side legends are applied as stickers. Alphas are a slightly darker shade of grey compared to the modifiers and function keys.
