An Active AT/XT-to-USB converter

An active converter refers to a computerized device designed to fully convert a keyboard's protocol and port, typically into USB. Commercial offerings can be found online, but they are often sold at a higher price compared to passive converters.

Some users may prefer to make their own converters using off-the-shelf hardware as an alternative to commercial adapters.

Converting any protocol into USB will require a specialized firmware in order to facilitate the conversion process. Some firmwares provide additional features, such as keymap customization and macros. However, all firmwares must be used with their specified microcontroller. (i.e. ATmega32u4)
