Mitsumi KAM series is a line of switches produced by Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd.1) The series is sometimes called “Mitsumi Type 1” or “Mitsumi Standard Mechanical” although both of those designations are unofficial and were used provincially before more official designations for the switch series was determined. KAM is the designation used by Mistumi to refer to this series but official part numbers for the switches within this series are not know.2) The names used by this wiki are unofficial.

The following switches are in the KAM series:

Characteristics

Switches in this series are usually linear although like most series of switches, the alternate action switches has a non-linear components to its travel.

Switches in this series generally have 5 parts, an upper and lower housing, a contact module, a stem, and a spring.

Additional Information

Most switches in this range share the same design for the top housing except for the alternate action switches and illuminated switches which both have an upper housing that allows for an LED to be installed in the switch, although the double action switches have not been observed with an LED installed.

The bottom housing varies most between switches in this series as double action switches have nubs on the bottom of the housing that interface with the embedded spring of double action sliders when the slider is pressed, while illuminated and alternate action switches have holes in the bottom housing to which the pins of an LED are poked through if an LED is installed.

Standard KAM switches have holes in the bottom that allow the contact module to be inserted into either side of the housing, or even for multiple modules to be installed, but as the bottom housing lacks the nubs found in double action housings a standard switch cannot be converted into a double action switch.
